Sam Wright

Sam is a chartered engineer with 24 years experience spanning consultancy and local authorities. In addition to undertaking design work for a variety of cycling, walking and urban realm schemes, he developed a number of bespoke skills which form the basis of SAW Consulting Services. These include:


  • Formally responsible for the design and approval of yellow box junctions on the Transport for London road network. He is now the UK's foremost expert on yellow box junction design and has written on the topic for the RAC and appeared in national media on the issue.  

  • Pioneered the removal of centre lines on main roads in London in conjunction with resurfacing, achieving significant reductions in vehicle speeds and international press coverage. 

  • Led the pedestrian guardrail removal programme, which as well as improving journeys for thousands of people at crossings every day, resulted in a reduction in pedestrian KSIs of 56%

  • Developed a comprehensive 'core skills' traffic engineering training programme 

  • A proven track record in reducing collisions as part of road safety schemes and in depth collision analysis
