Designing Yellow Box Junctions

Duration: 1 day (10am to 4pm)

Yellow boxes are a surprisingly complicated topic, involving the dynamics of the movement, the physical design of the box and enforcement and appeals legislation. With many being enforced it's vital that they are designed appropriately and legally.

Trainer: Sam Wright

Sam Wright was formally responsible for the design and approval of yellow boxes on the TfL network. He has assessed, monitored and designed hundreds of boxes at all manner of junctions. He also has knowledge of over 100 key cases from adjudicators. He has written for the RAC, CIHT and national media and is the UK's leading expert on the topic.

Working with and around Utilities

Duration: 1 day (10am to 4pm)

This course looks at the processes involved in considering and dealing with underground utilities when designing and building highway schemes. As well as gaining an underdtanding of statutory undertaker’s concerns, priorities and drivers, users will be able to identify risks and consequences for direct and indirect utility impacts.

Trainer: Denys Nagornyy

Denys has 25 years of experience in highways and specialises in the field of utility “asset protection”. Denys has represented utility companies, provided support to scheme promoters to identify and quantify impacts of schemes on utility networks and assisted in developing mitigation measures to deliver projects. He currently works for Thames Water.

Autocad Basics

Duration: 1 day (10am to 4pm)

Designed for absolute beginners, this training provides users with an understanding of how Autocad works and gives them the skills and confidence to navigate drawings, undertake basic checks and design work.

Trainer: Stanko Pezic

Stanko Pezic is a Civil Engineer with over 20 years experience in Traffic and Transport. He currently manages a team of cad technicians that he trained and works as an Associate Director for SAW Consulting Services. He provides support to clients in the UK, Australia and Europe.

Experimental Schemes

Duration: 1 day (10am to 4pm)

The course provides an overview of the types of schemes that can be introduced on an experimental basis, the statutory traffic order and consultation processes required and gathering an evidence base for deciding if they should become permanent. Vital for those introducing schemes such as LTNs

Trainer: Richard Firth

Richard is an experienced traffic orders professional and has undertaken training for PTRC for many years on “Traffic Orders, Principles and Good Practice”. He currently works for Havering Council.

Collision Data and Analysis

Duration: 1/2 day

This course gives an introduction to STATS19 collision data. Users will learn what exactly collision data is, where it comes from, what it contains, how to intepret individual records, how we can use it to understand how collisions have occurred and look for patterns and design solutions.

Trainer: Sam Wright

Sam is the owner and developer of Collision Plot, the UK's leading STATS 19 data software and collision data website. He has extensive experience in analysing collision data for traffic engineering road safety schemes.
